True Prayer

The prayer that undoes the ego and returns your thinking to truth — from the wrong mind of separation to the right mind of Perfect Love.

Prayer is a form of communication from the created to the Creator. All prayer is divine; however, you need to be praying from your right mind of being, and not the wrong mind of ego thinking. The Treasure Map is your true prayer, for she returns your thinking to truth: wholeness and holiness — to the right mind that is in constant communication with God. For this mind is not separate but the same: Perfect Love.

When you find your right mind, you will know what to ask God for. You might pray, ‘Please, God, help me to find a better job with more money. I really need it right now.’ Yet when you forgive within, you come to see that you are where you are because you do not believe in yourself and lack self-worth. The true prayer of The Treasure Map undoes this darkness within that you see without.

The ladder of prayer

There is a ladder of prayer. The lower rungs keep the belief in separation as a seeming reality, whilst the top rung knows the difference between illusion and truth. The first level is the ego prayer. It makes real the body and the separate self of ego-identification. It entreats; it begs for help, for it comes from a place of lack. The ego is the symbol of separation, made from a belief in sin, so it will never offer you the completion of Perfect Love that you seek — for that is the opposite of why it was made.

There is nothing wrong with this prayer — to pray is divine — but it continues to reinforce the separate self of sin, guilt and fear. It does not undo the belief in lack, loss and lovelessness. That is the work of your true prayer.

True prayer

The second level is true prayer. This is the prayer that undoes ego-identification, taking you from the place of separation to the truth of the Oneness within. It is the only prayer you need at this time, until you have begun to awaken to the right mind. It moves you from wrong-minded thinking to right-mindedness, which is peace and love. From that place within, from your true voice, you can then commune with God — telling Him what you wish to say from your truth, and not illusion.

The Treasure Map is your true prayer: when you follow the process of FAITH and move from the place of separateness to discover the wholeness that is within. The goal is to undo ego-identification so that you can reclaim the Self that is perfect, peaceful and powerful — the being of Perfect Love that you are in truth, not the limited self bound to the sin of suffering in the illusion of time.

Power prayer

The third level is power prayer. This prayer is one of devotion only, offered from the place of wholeness within, where the belief in separation has been dissolved. It does not entreat, nor ask for favours, for it knows it has need of nothing. ‘I love God.’ It is a prayer of thanks, and a prayer of giving from the place of wholeness.

You think you might give to God, but it is God who gives to you — filling you from within, answering your true prayer with His perfect peace. And even those who arrive here often find that, at times, they have fallen back down the ladder into ego prayer. This is the way the climb goes: you go backward to go forward, for every stone of darkness must be overturned for you to awaken in the wholeness of holiness that is the truth of who you are.

Each day devoted to miracles

A Course in Miracles says, ‘Each day should be devoted to miracles.’ This is often misread as striving to look for the good and ignore the bad. But there is only thought, for this world is the projection of the thoughts you think within, and each thought can be traced back to some aspect of the belief in separation. Do not try to cover dark thoughts with positive affirmations; you must undo the darkness of ego judgment to find the truth of Perfect Love that it covers. Affirmations are true once you have arrived at the place of wholeness within — they sit at the end of the treasure maps you draw up, when you have placed your Truforgiveness upon the altar to God.

How the map works

The True Prayer Treasure Map works through FAITH — Forgiveness, Authenticity, Introspection, Trust and Honesty — and a set of thirty questions that surface the hidden hurt, layer by layer. You meet each one honestly, then answer it with your own ‘I forgive…’ statement, until the whole map becomes one continuous true prayer. It asks only that you go gently, and never more than one map a day. This is tender inner work, and it deserves your patience.

It begins with you

It is your true prayer that will guide the way out of the madhouse and into the miracle of remembering your true Self — the One that is innocent not guilty, whole not part, and happy not hurting. And it is your true prayer that will lead, in time, to your power prayer.
