A Course in Miracles · The Text, Workbook & Manual · Scribed 1965–1972
A Course Was Written Down
In 1965, two research psychologists at Columbia University — Helen Schucman and William Thetford — grew tired of the competition and attack that filled their department. They agreed to find another way. Within months an inner Voice began speaking to Helen, and she began to write down what she heard.
She took the dictation for seven years. Bill typed it as she read it back. Neither of them went looking for a scripture, and neither of them claimed the words as their own. In 1976 the material was published by the Foundation for Inner Peace as A Course in Miracles.
It arrived the way truth always arrives — not to the special, but to the willing. Two people simply asked for another way of seeing, and the answer came.
A Curriculum in Mind-Correction
The Course is not a religion, and it asks for no congregation. It is a curriculum — a course of study for the mind, offered in three volumes. It does not ask you to believe anything. It asks you to practise.
Its subject is not the world. Its subject is the thinking that made the world look the way it does. It teaches that there are two ways of seeing — the wrong mind of separation and the right mind of Perfect Love — and that you are the one who chooses between them, every moment of every day.
It is one form among many. The Course itself says its form is not required of anyone, for the truth it points to belongs to everybody. The content is universal. The path in is personal.
Innocence Is True
The whole Course rests on one idea: what God creates as One cannot be sinful, and cannot be separated. The guilt you carry is not the record of what you did. It is the shadow of a separation that never occurred.
This is why the forgiveness the Course teaches is not the forgiveness the world teaches. The world forgives by pardoning a sin it has already made real — it looks at the wrong, keeps it, and then graciously overlooks it. That kind of forgiveness leaves the guilt exactly where it was.
The Course asks something far gentler and far harder: look again. Withdraw the judgment. Do not make the error real, and there is nothing left to pardon — only innocence, which was there the whole time, waiting underneath.
This is where Truforgiveness begins. Not with the person in front of you, but with the cause within — the guilt in your own mind that asked to see a guilty world.
A Miracle Is a Shift in Perception
The Course does not use the word miracle the way the world uses it. A miracle is not water into wine, and it is not a body suddenly rearranged. A miracle is a correction — a single thought moved from fear to love.
Nothing outside needs to change for a miracle to occur, because nothing outside was ever the cause. The cause is within. When the mind is corrected at the cause, the effect follows on its own, and what looked like a problem is simply no longer there to be defended.
Miracles are natural, and there is no order of difficulty among them — a grudge and a lifetime of grief are undone by the same mind-correction, because both are made of the same mistaken thought.
When you follow the path of FAITH that God has granted, it takes you from separate to the same, from the wrong mind to the right mind of revelation.
This is what The Treasure Map is for. The Course tells you a miracle is a shift in perception. Truforgiveness is the practice of mentally digging down and making the shift.
Where the Course Meets the Map
A Course in Miracles gives you the theory. It tells you there are two minds, that guilt is the veil, and that a miracle is the shift from fear to love. It tells you that forgiveness heals. What it leaves you to find is how.
The Treasure Map of Truforgiveness is the how. It is the mental digging — down through the shadow, past the story, to the cause within — where the ‘I Forgive’ principle is applied and the thought is corrected at its root.
You do not need to own A Course in Miracles to walk The Treasure Map. Truforgiveness stands on its own two feet. If you do study the Course, the Map will feel like the practice you were reaching for.
Truforgiveness is a spiritual practice for the mind. It sits alongside medical and psychological care — it never replaces it. If you are unwell, please keep your doctor.

A course can point the way. Only your forgiving within will walk it.
